Last year, I shared my Top 9 Grid here, and while I’m still going to do that, I also wanted to try something a little different – and then I’ll go into my Word for the Year. For a really in-depth review of my 2018, check out my year-in-review post at A Nudge in the Right Direction. It covers the good, the great, and also some of the real lows of last year that I rarely share on social media – but I do think it’s important to acknowledge the downs, too.

My Top 9 Grid

But here’s the something different I wanted to try this year. I loved this guide for finding the 10 Photos that Shaped My Year from Artifact Uprising. I’m going to share 10 of mine based on the prompts they gave. If you do this too, let me know in the comments because I’d love to see yours, too!

PHOTO 01: Find a photo from the year’s greatest adventure – big or small.

PHOTO 02: Find a photo of a significant moment.

PHOTO 03: What photo makes you feel most alive?

PHOTO 04: Pick your favorite photo of you and the people you love.

PHOTO 05: Search for a photo of a morning you want to remember.

PHOTO 06: Find a photo that represents joy.

PHOTO 07: Locate a photo of the people that shaped your year.

PHOTO 08: Find a photo of you trying something new.

PHOTO 09: Identify an image of something you are proud of.

PHOTO 10: What is a photo that you’ll want to pass down for generations to come?

Not going to lie, it was hard choosing these photos, but I loved that it made me look at what I documented in 2018 and reminded me of so much I have to be grateful for. I think I’ll do something like this next year, too!

And now, for my One Word Resolution…

Background: for the last few years, I’ve picked one word to be my touchstone for the year to come. The word is less specific than individual New Year’s resolutions, but I like having something broad to guide and center me as I work through 2019.

My word for 2019 is:

My word last year was GO because I wanted to push myself.

To quote my 2018 post: I want to be healthier, kinder, stronger, more daring, and more creative.

On the “doing stuff” side of things, I did a good job. I went on trips, changed plans, said yes to things I wasn’t sure about or had never done before, and put more of my work out there. But I wasn’t as healthy as I wanted to be or as creative; 2018 had so many joys but also turned out to be kind of grueling, especially as the year closed.

I started strong, but this year, I want to make it a priority to make smaller goals and to hopefully set better habits through that. I’m trying to drink more water and sleep earlier, and I’m trying to write more – whether it’s journaling (for more self-reflection), poetry, or blog posts, I want to make that a priority. And of course, I’m trying to keep up my geek fashion game. Over the last year or so, I’ve really enjoyed doing outfit posts and am getting to be less self-conscious about it. It’s one of the things I’ve done that’s been a bit more out of my comfort zone but also very rewarding.

As with years past, I’ve created a pinterest board for my word. You can check it out below, and let me know in the comments what your goals are for this year.

Dedicate is my word. I want to query in 2019 and give everything I can to the things that matter most in my life. I made a vision board. Love the idea of doing one on Pinterest! Wishing you the best in 2019!
